Britain's Royal Opera House will stage the premiere of an opera about ex-model and actress Anna Nicole Smith, who died in 2007.

Marc-Anthony Turnage will compose the music for Anna Nicole while Richard Thomas will write the libretto. Thomas co-created Jerry Springer: The Opera.

The 39-year-old model died from an accidental prescription-drug overdose just five months after the death of her 20-year-old son from her first marriage.

Daniel Smith died at a Bahamas hospital room where his mother was staying after the birth of her daughter.

Born Vicki Lyn Hogan in Mexia, Texas, Smith was 1993's Playboy Playmate of the Year. One year later, she was married to oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, who was 83.

When her husband died in 1995, Smith fought a public legal battle against his son over her husband's $500-million fortune.

In 2002, she had a reality TV show focusing on her outrageous antics and lifestyle.

Anna Nicole launches Feb. 17, 2011 at Covent Garden venue with Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek in the lead role.
