The Toronto Blue Jays will charge more for the cheapest seats in the house while holding the line on most of their other tickets under a simplified pricing structure for the 2010 season.
The new pricing scheme was outlined Monday by Jason Diplock, the club's vice-president of ticket sales and service, in an interview with The Canadian Press.
It divides tickets into two cost categories (premium and regular) instead of the previous four (super premium, premium, regular and value) and reduces the number of seating sections at the Rogers Centre from 12 to 10.
But for some fans, particularly those seeking a deal, the bump of $2 per ticket for seats in the upper-level "nosebleed" sections is what will stick out most.
That the increase comes with the Blue Jays embarking on a rebuilding under new GM Alex Anthopoulos, a process marked by the dealing away of ace Roy Halladay and a lacklustre off-season devoid of impact signings, may only add to their frustration.
"We understand where they're coming from and, make no mistake, we sat down and built this matrix and had the fans' concerns top of mind," said Diplock, who is in his second year on the job.
"At the end of the day, I think we continue to offer great flexibility and terrific options when you want to come to the ballpark, whether it's for a full season or one game, whether you want to sit on the lower level or the upper level. We feel we continue to have a good mix of price points that fit all our consumers' needs."
