Game 5 of the World Series won't be completed until Wednesday at the earliest.

With rain still falling in Philadelphia, and possible snow showers in the forecast, Major League Baseball decided that it won't try to complete Game 5 on Tuesday night.

"While obviously we want to finish Game 5 as soon as possible, the forecast for today does not allow for us to continue the game this evening," commissioner Bud Selig said.

"We are closely monitoring tomorrow's forecast and will continue to monitor the weather on an hourly basis. We will advise fans as soon as we are able to make any final decisions with respect to tomorrow's schedule."

Monday night's game was suspended following a half-hour delay with the score tied 2-2 in the middle of the sixth inning. By that time, a steady downpour had rendered the field at Citizens Bank unplayable.

It was the first time a World Series game wasn't played to completion on the same day.

The forecast for Wednesday called for clearing skies by the early afternoon, with temperatures around 4 C by night.

Philadelphia leads the series three games to one, putting the team one win away from its first World Series title since 1980.
