Skelton wins CN International Grand Prix
British rider Nick Skelton captured his fourth CN International Grand Prix championship Sunday, finishing with just one fault over two rounds at Spruce Meadows in Calgary.
Skelton finished in 81.443 to win the title, Belgium's Jos Lansik had two faults with a time of 83.995 to finish second, while American Richard Spooner was third.
"This is the greatest CN International for me. I think Arko has always been a special horse for me," Skelton said of his winning horse.
Olympic gold medallist Eric Lamaze, of Schomberg, Ont., faulted four times on Hickstead and was forced to settle for a disappointing fifth-place finish.
"Yeah, it hurts a little bit but I'm so thrilled with the last month," said Lamaze, who won gold in individual show jumping and added a silver medal in the team competition at the Beijing Games in August. "I guess we just ran out of luck."
Sunday's loss also proved costly for Lamaze, who would have claimed $775,000 by winning a third leg of the CN Precision Series.
