Veteran tight end Jeremy Shockey is heading to the New Orleans Saints.
Shockey will leave the New York Giants in exchange for second- and fifth-round picks in the 2009 NFL draft. Saints spokesman Greg Bensel on Monday confirmed the trade.
The two teams had reportedly been talking about a deal involving the player since March.
Shockey caught 59 passes for three touchdowns last season for the Giants but was on the sidelines when New York won the Super Bowl over the New England Patriots. The Ada, Okla., native suffered a season-ending broken leg in December.
Shockey, who will turn 29 in August, has spent all six NFL seasons with the Giants. He has been among the leading pass-catching ends over that span, with 371 catches for 4,228 yards and 27 touchdowns.
The six-foot-five, 240 pound Shockey was selected 14th overall by New York in the 2002 draft out of the University of Miami.
