Latvian Minins wins bobsled gold; Lueders 5th
Latvia's Janis Minins won his second consecutive four-man bobsleigh World Cup event Sunday in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Manins, who won the same competition in Cesana, Italy last week, and his team finished with a winning two-run time of two-minutes 10.54 seconds. World Cup leader Alexander Zubkov of Russia took the silver in 2:10.90, while Switzerland's Ivo Rueegg placed third in 2:11.03.
Edmonton's Pierre Lueders and teammates Ken Kotyk of Rama, Sask., David Bissett from Edmonton and World Cup rookie Justin Kripps of Summerland, B.C., struggled to a fifth-place finish in a time of 2:11.10.
Lueders won his first World Cup gold medal of the season in the four-man event two weeks ago in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
Lyndon Rush of Humboldt, Sask., and his team of Chris Le Bihan from Kelowna, B.C., and Calgarians Dan Humphries and Nathan Cross failed to advance to the second heat and finished 25th out of 26 teams.
Zubkov leads the World Cup standings with 1,173 points, only four ahead of Lueders.
The World Cup circuit continues next weekend in Konigssee, Germany.
