Ottawa Senators rookie forward Nick Foligno was demoted Wednesday to the AHL's Binghamton Senators.
Foligno, 19, scored twice for Ottawa with six penalty minutes in 14 games.
"I was doing everything I could [to stay]," he said. "It just wasn't working out.
"I just want to go down to Binghamton, and get back up here as soon as possible."
"He probably didn't get the minutes young players need," Senators general manager Bryan Murray said. "And with [Jason] Spezza coming back, in particular, he would get even less."
Foligno, the son of former NHLer Mike Foligno, was drafted 28th overall by Ottawa in 2006.
He made his NHL debut on Oct. 3, helping the Senators prevail 4-3 in overtime over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Foligno scored his first NHL goal exactly four minutes into the second period of a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 18.
Last season with the OHL's Sudbury Wolves, he ranked second in team scoring with 31 goals and 88 points.
